Before you go and buy a new fan run a wire from the positive side of the batter to the pos. of the fan and do the same for the neg. That will at least tell you if you do need a new fan or you have a different problem

Slow down a bit.

Check fuse #10, 15 amp, in the Junction Block (JB) [passenger footwell fuse panel] and fuse #5, 40 amp, in the Power Distribution Center (PDC), and see if they're blown.

The Radiator Fan Relay is the green relay in the PDC pic. Yours maybe black. The Electric Radiator Fan Relay location is also shown on the inside of the PDC cover.

See pics below for locations.

If these fuses are good there is a test you can perform to check the setting that the PCM that turns on the fan in an overtemp condition, but first check these fuses and get back.

Check the fan relay. Swap it with the horn relay.

well both fuses are good. and I attempted to jump the fan itself and got nothing. but before I get a new fan I'm going to splice in a wire and jump it that way incase I had a bad connection

Did you ever solve this issue? I confirmed the other night that my e-fan hasn't worked since I got my XJ. Also a '98. Haven't tried any of the diagnostics yet but will dig in tonight. Just wondering what your solution ended up being.
