No dash lights 84 XJ [SOLVED]
No power at the fuse box going in and out of dash light fuse either with key on or off.
I have a fusable link, can I just take my power from an open ignition slot on my fuse block and connect it to the top end of the INST LPS fuse, would that work?
I've replaced the headlamp switch new and the plug does seem to connect properly.
Cheers,

That's one way of doing it but the better way is to trace the supply. The problem is likely right behind your fuse block so fixing it might be easier than circumventing it. Feeding power to a broken connection could cause larger issues than no dash lights.

Supposing I do just want to reroute power (with a wired fuse) then I take out the old fuse. Where would I connect my power to, #1 or #2? I'm thinking number 2 because whenever I test ignition, the power goes from top to bottom.

you should be able to use either if I'm not mistaken being the lights are turned on my the headlight switch.. I however if one has a constant power it would cause a draw.

Thanks for your reply, wouldn't connecting a power source back to a power source blow things up (sorry I love those emocons) but yeah, even if the power isn't working now, a bump on the road might momentarily reconnect and then bomba.
The source I'm gonna use is the red ignition wire coming out of the 30amp fuse (bottom left), it's been dangling there since I replaced the wiring harness 5 years ago.

Ok, I will try to trace it, forgive my lethargic spirit. I'll have a quick look. I remember I lost power to my headlights one year and so it's probably along that line.
But I also reasoned that if I get dash lights connecting to one of the leads then that's the lead I want. Again thanks for your help, electrical-circuitry problems creates despondancy within the garage mechanic.

Ok I rerouted power and now lights are always on when the ignition is on. Dimmer doesn't work
Headlights work off and on, dimmer doesn' t work. I did a cursory check at the wires under the hood and they seem all there. Any other suggestions I can try?

I know it's a small problem but it would be nice if it would work the way it is supposed to.
Cheers,
