Default NO BUS!

Hey guys, I have a 99 Cherokee Sport, and my odometer shows NO BUS, and the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT comes on. My cluster gauges keep going up and down. I don't know what the problem is.

Help me out guys. It's my first Jeep, I want to keep it maintained.

From what I have read in the past it usually means you have a bad connection to your Guage cluster or some water got back there and shorted out your cluster.

You may have to pull your dash and check out the connectors to your cluster.

Do I have to take the whole dash out?... or is there an easier way to take the cluster out?...

This is correct, it is usually a bad connection with the contacts behind the gauge cluster.

A quick fix for me was to hit the top of the dash above the cluster a couple of good times. It hasn't been back in quite a long time now.

Take the gauge cluster out and clean the contacts. You don't have to take the whole dash out, only the trim piece around the cluster and you then have access to the cluster. It's not that hard.
