Recently bought 97 Cherokee, no problems to my knowledge. Today I stopped at a gas station and when i came out it wouldn't start. Just makes clicking noises. Lights, gauges, and a/c work fine. Thought it was the battery. One terminal was a little loose. Tightened it, and had it jumped twice but still just clicking. A man helping me said he saw "no bus" on the odometer briefly but i haven't seen it before or after that and I've been messing with it for hours. (I'm broke down several hours from my house and everything is closed.) Now there's no clicking when i try to start it. Lights, gauges, and a/c still working but no noise when i try to start it. Any ideas?

 

The starter could be dead. Try beating it a bit and then cranking.

 

Tried beating on the starter. It began to crank but didn't start. Before that it wasn't making any noise. Got two computer error codes: "throttle / pedal position sensor / switch a circuit low" and "no bus message received from ecm mod". How is this fixed?

 

Still sounds like a starter issue. Take the starter out and test it at an auto parts store.
