i have an '01 cherokee that i just picked up. shes a flood victim of the sandy storm deal. she runs and drives but where the mileage should be it says No Bus. i have no idea what this is. has anyone else seen this before? any and all help is greatly appreciated. thank you in advance

Unplug your TCM transmission control module. When you unplug it, your mileage should pop up. But you cant drive it with the tcm unplugged of course, this is just to see if the tcm is the cause, let me know how it went

Water is tough on electronics. NO BUS where the engine runs is generally a cluster issue itself.
1. Remove dash cluster
2. Thoroughly spray the connectors with electrical contact cleaner (widely available)
3. Add a generous dab of dielectric grease to the connectors
4. Reinstall and hope for the best.

idk where the TCM is located. and my temp gauge was working last night then stopped, tach went to about 600 rpm and then stayed there and then dropped and stopped working as well. speedometer doesnt work since im doing a trans flush i have the jeep up on jack stands and let it run in drive to circulate the fluid. also the "no bus" seems to pop up right as the check engine light comes on so maybe there a connection there. other than that starts right up and drives no problem even before i started the trans flush. probbly going to have to do at least 2 more and then change the filter.
Could be bad instrument cluster connection as stated above. Push on the cluster and see if it resolves it.
Possibly be a bad Crankshaft Position Sensor. If it was waterlogged I wouldn't be surprised if it killed the CPS.

No Bus with engine running is not the crank sensor. If you don't have input from the crank sensor, the engine will not run. If you have a No Bus and the engine doesn't run, THEN suspect a shorted crank sensor.

well I was finally able to drive the jeep down the road after doing the trans filter, was a pain in the add because the dipstick tube is mounted directly to the trans pan. anyway I drove it down the road and the cluster started working fine. let it sit for about two days, drove it again and the cluster didn't start working right away but kind of went in and out while driving. guessing there's just a bad connection somewhere.

The "no bus" issue is kinda sorta common. As previously mentioned clean the connections to the cluster... or just go to the JY and pick up a new one ( new to you anyways)

9 times outa 10 this is a connection issue at the back of the gauge cluster. Mine did this a few times and the guages would stop.working at the same time. If i hit the top of the dash theyd come back on. Just pull the cluster out and bend the individual tabs for the connectors so they make better contact with the cluster.

well the cluster goes in and out but there's a new problem. the jeep won't shut itself off now. have to disconnect the positive battery terminal and unplug the alternator. any idea what the problem is there?
