I was coming home from school last week and I noticed my rpm's and mph's weren't working (but oil pressure and temp were) and shortly after my check engine light came on and my car read "No Bus" where the mileage should have been. I pulled off the road and restarted it and it has been fine since. Is this a serious/reoccurring problem? And what does no bus mean??

 

There are 2 types of NO BUS message. By the way, the "bus" is like the highway for all of the computer signals of the engine.

1. No bus and the engine runs fine (that is a dash cluster problem)

2. No bus and the engine does NOT run or has stalling symptoms. That is generally a shorted crank sensor.

If it happens again, you can try removing the connector for the crank sensor and then check your dash. If the no bus is gone, you have smoking gun proof that the crank sensor is to blame because by removing the connector, you removed the crank sensor from the "bus".

 

Think it was the first problem because the engine was running fine. Thanks for the help man!
