Default Newbie not sure where to post yet?

Need help and info with my recently purchased xj. I have an 84 xj 2.5l 2dr with the ax4 tranny. I paid three hundred bucks for this rig and it runs like a sherman tank. Problem is I do not have enough throwout to the clutch. I have replaced and bled thoroughly all the hydraulics involved with little gain. Took it to a "reputable" transmission shop for a free diagnostic and the broke the shifter arm off and then melted the bushing trying to weld it back together!!! And after all that recommended new hydraulics, flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc and throwout bearing for a grand total of 1500 bucks. Tells me they were too stupid to actually figure out what was going on in there. So that being said and sorry for the long post.... Can anyone give me some ideas of what to look at and maybe some photo's on RnRing the tranny and clutch? Thank you so much in advance!!! Have a great day and Happy Jeeping

Thanks for the response, like I said I just bought it with 179,000 miles. Pretty low for the year but none the less I'm sure it could use some attention which I will be happy to give it.

This may sound silly, but did the shop check the clutch fork?

Hey Kennyg I don't think those idiots really checked anything, I am going to just pull it apart and see what I can find.
