BlueXJ, I am capable of doing some of the work if it's not too complicated (I normally do routine maintenance work on my vehicles), I just need some help with the troubleshooting.

Not sure about code 35. I found a thread that listed code 35 as 'Cooling fan relay circuit open or shorted' OR 'idle switch motor fault - check connections'. The thread that BlueXJ posted a link to only says 'Cooling fan relay. Check relay and circuit.' for code 35. Which is it?

Thanks.
Code 35 is exactly that Check the cooling fan itself and the related relay and the related wiring between the two. My guess is there is a poor connection in that circuit somewhere.

Thanks. My confusion with code 35 was about the 2 possible definitions (cooling fan relay circuit vs idle switch motor fault), depending on which OBDI code thread is correct.

I replaced the oxygen sensor and both codes 35 and 21 were cleared.

Did you replace the sensor yourself or have a shop do it? Where'd you get your parts? I supposedly need to do this too

I replaced the sensor myself. You can find the sensor at most auto parts stores.

sometimes the CEL will randomly come on,(sometimes it turns out to be a fluke, other times it means theres a problem) i've noticed it sometimes when out wheeling, it will get heat soaked/vapor locked. running hot and turning the engine off for a short time, when you start it back up it will sputter and misfire and throw codes. last trip out every XJ had this problem. easiest solution; when you stop, leave it running, or turn it off and pop the hood. we all know how hot these XJ's run.

Thanks for all the replies.
I bought my Jeep Cherokee (XJ) in the year 2008 and sold it four years later.
