Default New XJ, loose wire.

Hey guys, i just bought my 98 cherokee sport 4.0 about a month ago and have been using this forum to help me along with fixing things up. The xj has 175k on it, a bad cat converter, and a loud tick in the motor, and a whistle at 2500rpms but i can probably manage those issues. My question is about the black wire in the picture that isnt connected to anything. Could this be setting off my CEL for a short to circuit from the downstream o2 sensor? As i know nothing about eletrical/wiring any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

It runs into the wire harness that is on the passanger side of the distributor cap and that ends up here at that white clip.

So, the wire goes to the starter solenoid? I'd say PO had a cranking issue at one time.. like a bad ignition switch. Did you mean it comes out of a factory wiring harness?

Yeah it is the factory harness. Would this cause any problems? or should I be okay to just leave it as is and just cap the wire.

It was a ground wire. He hooked it from the starter to the motor or frame for better ground for the starter. He probably did have starting problems.
