Ok as some may have seen, im converting a 2wd to a 4wd, i picked up a AW4 today with a 231 transfer case, but the shift linakges and lever for the transfer case couldnt be had, so.... The only XJ at the local scrap yard has a AW4 with a 242 transfer case, does anyone know if the linkages and brackets are any diffrent for the 242 verses the 231?

 

I'm almost 95% sure they're the same but you will want to change the shift indicator as it doesn't have the full time notch with the 231

 

im positive theyre the same... i swapped the linkage from my parts jeep to my driver jeep with no problems. diff shift assembly id assume though as far as the lever and gate and indicators...

 

The linkages will be the same IIRC but the shifter gate has a different number of positions.

 

Good deal guys, ill go rob all the stuff off of the one at the junk yard. I knew the indicator would be diffrent, and just now thought of the shift gate.

 

Stay away from the 242 linkage, it's crap. It likes to flex.
