Hello sorry if this has been posted before but I can't seem to find anything concrete. So I recently bought my first jeep 1990 Cherokee. I've had it 3 days, I noticed some coolant on the ground so I decided to check the, coolant bottle. Stupid me not really knowing anything about a closed cooling system I opened the bottle (while still hot) and unleashed the boiling fury contained within. Now that bottle cant hold pressure and after filling it back up blew the cap off just as I got home the other day. Just put a new bottle in today, and the engine still seems to be getting rather hot quickly, it doesn't seem to be taking the coolant from the bottle(maybe thermostat?) and had i little steam coming from the bottle. could me have opening the bottle while still hot jacked up my cooling system? It has a switch operated aux cooling fan also.

 

Go to Napa and get a 703-1396 cap for that bottle. Fill the bottle about half full. Put the new cap on it and drive it or just run it.
