so today i got a jeep actually my first! its a 1988 cherokee 2 door with a 4.0 and a 5 speed 4x4. but she has some issues first and most important is the running lights (ie tail lamps marker lamps and plate lamps dont work)and the fuse blows the PO has a 25 amp fuse in it and its supposed to be a 10 amp. i am a tech at a benz dealer and i am suspection a short to ground some where. question is do the light switches cause this issue on jeeps ? also the dash lamps dont work. issue two is the right front wheel bering is making a hell of a noise. i am goint to replace them but i dont know how can some one help me out as in the steps i need to take. and the last issue i find is it takes several seconds of cranking to fire off. is this normal ? or do i have and under lying issue? thank you in advanced guys! i will post pics once its day light out
The Renix jeeps do crank a bit longer. They have to hit a certain RPM for a certain length of time before the computer puts fire in the hole.
The front wheel bearings- you have to change the entire hub. I know there's a thread with pics here somewhere.
Check around back for signs of a trailer wiring harness. Those cause trouble. Also the rear bulb sockets and wiring. Probably not the light switch, but there's always the possibility. More commonly it's the wiring in back.

Ok so I went to rockauto.com and they have the bearings and then they have a hub unit?! What do I need the hub unit correct ? The only one listed at 107$ ? I'm so lost with this !

When yo uget this initial stuff sorted out, click on the link in my signature and start reading about Renix Jeeps. My prescription is for #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 for starters. Cheap and easy.

The only one I see listed is Omix. I suppose you could press new bearings into the old hub, I've never done it personally.

If you go to summit racing they have Timken unit bearings for around $90. But you might want to look again at rockauto. I was on there a few weeks back and they had more than one brand. They also had the timken unit bearings but were about $20 less than summit I believe

I'm on my I phone most of the time and the rock catalog only showed one went to a desktop and they have te timkin hub assembly for lil 75-80$ not bad considering local Carquest wants 90+ for a npf hub. I watched a few vids it seems just like doing a hub on a Mercedes Benz gl550 so it will be easy for me but do I need to replace hardware ? If so what do I need besides a cotter key ?

I've seen pics of the hub unit it makes sense now I wa thinking it wa a tapered Bering set up or something like my 79 k10 or a friends trooper where you have dissassemble the locking hub to get it apart now I see its basicly a drive flange
