Ok hers some pics this is of the connector at the rear end that come from the fuse box. It's for I believe the wiper
is tere any reason those two wires Gould have continuity between each other ? They are still connected up front as well with the wires for the rear defroster ?
Cruiser this is the connector you were referancing correct?
And can you tell me what these relays are for ?

So it's my understanding that If I'd disconnect the connector for the rear lamps at the left kick panel and leave everything back connected with good bulbs they should all have continuity between each other ? They all share the same ground ? Also I took the switch out and I have continuity terminal r and ground when switch is in postion 1 and then in postion 2 no continuity push it to postion zero lights off I have continuity until I twist the **** a bit? Normal or not?

Have you checked the wiring going to the hatch? The license plate light hot wire broke and hit a broken ground on mine (89) and cause my running lights fuse to blow. The box on the passenger side of the column is the ECM. My xj likes to blow brake light bulbs and have not found out why yet. And yes there's a main connector for rear lights looked between gas door and tail light behind the spare tire panel.

The hatch wires also plug in behind that panel. Depending on the options you have there's a plug for each option ex: rear wipe, defrost, power locks, and standard are license plate and speakers.
