Default New Interstate Battery - MTP-58

I just picked up a new battery for my pops - 90' xj 4.0. This is such a noob question but I'm not sure if they gave me the correct size - MTP-58 CA765 / CCA610?? This battery is smaller than the tray. I checked interstate's website and they have MTP-58 listed as well. I also checked advance auto's website and they're saying group 58 too.

However, the old battery i just pulled out says group 56-2 CA1000 / CCA850 and is clearly bigger. Its from Advance Auto (AutoCraft)

Can anyone clarify this for me? This is for my pops so i want to be sure he doesn't have any issues or what not.

I hear ya, but personally I've never had the physical dimensions vary this much. I dont mind the oem spec but this battery is way small for the tray. i want to use the proper size/battery.

what size/type are you running?

If "three" application chart calls for this, it should be fine, even if it is slightly smaller than the original one.

Don't be concerned as much about the size difference as long as it snugs down okay.

My 99 XJ came with a pretty marginal battery IMHO, (500-600 cca maybe?) but it cranked that engine over like nobody's business, even in the godforsaken -30 below Minnesota winters that my XJ experiences. (why do I live here??)

My replacement Sears Diehard Silver had specs that beat the OEM battery in every category and still was only about $65.

The 58 is the correct size....I just replaced mine with a 58 series battery....I had a 65 series battery in my old tray but I couldnt use the hold down and the tray had to be modified as the battery was way to big. PO did that one

Abi...nasilsiniz?.... i've been running the interstate mt-58 for a year now with no issues... go for it, interstate is very good quality and the 58 gives me enough cca here in texas - i used to run interstate in my 87 xj with no issues.

Selam, siz nasılsıniz?

Well, i ended installing the mtp-58 but i also called up advance auto to double check the warranty of the dead autocraft.

I ended up walking out of there with a free battery. I remember them having an outage over the summer so i questioned their records and they did say they lost data and would honor the warranty.

I do not like autocraft but my pops didn't mind, plus its CA1000 / CCA 850
