my wife just got this jeep never messed with the h.o engines i have a 1987 cherokee but it a 1998 auto 4x4 but at a stop light it acts like it freezes up for a moment then drives fine any ideas

 

What do you mean it freezes up? Need more info How does it run, Does it miss?

 

Since it's new, I'd start with a basic tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel injector cleaner, oil change, ground and battery terminal refreshment). Maybe some other fluids too - coolant, differentials, transfer case, transmission

Might as well do some testing too - compression, fuel pressure, battery load test, alternator test, see if there are any stored codes, etc. etc.

sorry did that on my phone and it copy and past it twice and it fine

 

check the TPS, check for vacuum leaks, run fuel pressure test for starters.
