Looks like the best bet for me is replacing what I have (the current radiator was replaced around 2002 or 2004) with what I found on Rock Auto, maybe taking the old one to a shop to see if it can be fixed and holding onto it until I have to do this again.
Probably a good idea. Repairing is not or everyone, or every situation.

Good luck!

Pickup some Balkamp constant torque and call it a day if you insist on getting rid of the tension clamps. https://www.napacanada.com/fr/p/BKB7051507

I was using the classic hose clamps and they would constantly leak because of the heat cycles.
That was my second choice, but iirc, Rock Auto only sells those in 10 pack too. Saw them on O'Reilly for $7 each. I have the classic screw scroll clamps on there now that haven't leaked yet, but if I am going to get in there and do it myself, I want it to stay done as long as possible.

There's a large 'raised' area under the screw, a big air-gap. What's going to hold the hose tight to the radiator nipple in that region?

I have usually found that MAPP gas is too hot unless you are soldering heavy stuff. It's just too easy to get things too hot.

I found a place that is close, actually on my way to/from work that rebuilds radiators. They told me to bring my old one by for an estimate. Having second thoughts about having that done right away. Might just clean it out right good with distilled water and hang it up until needed some years down the road.
