Everyone recommends WIX. I have yet to find one while perusing the store shelves. Where can I locate these fine pieces of work?

Napa sells them as a Napa Gold. Carquest carries them.

I don't think VatoZone sells them.

Yes. I have seen it used on cars from the 50's. It was probably done earlier, too.

The sad thing is, you may not KNOW you've had a problem. Low oil pressure, clogged oil passages, oil bypassing teh poorly glued in media. Unless you take them apart or have a catastrophic failure, you'l be none the wiser.

Most of the higher end filters like Royal Purple, K & N etc are made by the same people that make the high quality off-the-shelf filters that are readily available for less money. Like Wix and Napa Gold. Heck, get a Mopar filter at Wal-Mart and you'll be fine.

So after reading this I'm ready to rip off my fram tough guard that I just put on a week ago. Is it possible to remove the filter without draining the oil? Its brand new oil so I don't want to waste it.

Yeah you can change the filter without draining the oil. Just be ready for some oil drainage and you'll have to add about half a quart

You'll only lose a bit. Heck, maybe none, since their anti-drainback valves aren't worth a crap!!! The filter will probably be empty. I just did this on my buddy's newly acquired 99 three weeks ago and there was no oil in the Fram filter.

But when I change my Wix, Napa Gold, or Mopar, they're alway loaded with oil. Hmmmm. Let us know what you find. Won't lose more than 1/2 quart at the most though.

I use Purolator Pure One.

An excellent filter media, good anti-drainback valve, always scores well with reviews.

I just purchased a few of them for $5.95 each on Amazon.com That is a good price for a very good filter.

Haha came home from grad school last year to hear my mom complaining about her car making noise. I crawl under and notice my dad has put a Fram filter on it. I pulled it off and I got about 3 tablespoons of oil out of the filter...
