neutral safety switch
95 cherokee, where the hell is it? I dont see anything that looks like the picture in my Haynes manual, including the linkage. Is it on the drivers or passenger side of the trans? Is it by the shifter in the console?

nss is on the pass side of the trans, linkage on the other side . a couple of 5/16 headedbolts and a large nut in the center (to hold it on the shaft) remove these and carefully pry it off the shaft. unplug the wiring and turn over on the bench, remove the screws ,separate the halves and clean! Good as new
Thanks for the articles, they were very helpfull. My '95 had intermittent switch problems for the last year, but I'd just drop into neutral and start right up. After seeing these posts, I got it off, cleaned it up and she's good to go. Turns out that the contact springs were gummed up. Thanks again!
I must say I think its very funny how many people ive read that have the same problem as me locating the nns. It seems to be an illuding little devise if your not completely familar with this damm thing. Thank you to everyone who has been salutary in finding this thing

After cleaning mine and spraying with lithium grease, it's like new and the Jeep has 206K on the clock. One article online says to tie a length of wire to the harness connection end of the wire pack, up in the engine compartment, and that's just what I did, cleaning and greasing the switch on the driveway.
Here's the bonus-flushing the trans. after doing this got rid of the check engine light (CEL) and OBD II codes for the trans. Took a few weeks of driving it around for that to happen. Kickdown cable is adjusted now, too.
