i took my nss off cleaned it and put it back on and still get no ignition what to do now?

 

Adjust it.

 

Another user mentioned this. Shift your tranny in reverse, and have your NSS ouf the post. Then, with something behind your taillights, turn the NSS until the reverse lights are lit up. Then you will have them matched up.

Did you say you don't have ignition? The NSS just prevents you from starting out of park and light up your reverse lights. If you are having a starting issue, that isn't your NSS

 

I tried the reverse light thing and I still get nothing I have been starting it with a screwdriver from the posts on the starter everything works when I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump run it just won't turn over at first I had to start it in neutral then one day it just wouldn't. Work at all

 

I have spent probably two hours underneath it trying to get it adjusted have moved it and tried in every possible position

 

Perhaps your "rebuild" didn't work. Did you put dielectric grease on all the contacts?

 

Could it be your NSS is ok and your ignition switch is bad? If the NSS IS ok (testing below) you can jump the two black wires marked B and C in the pic on the switch side of the plug. Careful, it may start in gear with the NSS disabled. If the NSS tests ok, then i'd look at the ignition switch, since the starter works when bypassing the ignition.

Well I fixed my crawling under my jeep to start it with a screw driver problem. I was digging threw a bucket of old tractor parts and found a push button switch that matched the color of my xj's interior. I just ran it from under the steering wheel to the two posts on my starter. Although it doesn't fix my back up lights it's better than $300.
