Default needing some help with my xj

I bought a 2000 cherokee sport last saturday and drove it home 250miles oneway and everything was fine. So sunday i took it playing and was climbing some hills when all of a sudden it dies. I roll backwards off the hill and it starts back up fine then i hit the hill again and climbed it this time. got to the top shut it off for about 10 minutes of so and when to get back in it and all it does is crank and wont start so i try starting it 2 or 3 more times and then it starts but it idleing low (400to500rpms) so i give it some throttle and it starts spiting and studdering and finely lines out. so about 10 more minutes when on with not a problem one and then i get stuck in some muck thick mud. so i get out to hook a chain and it starts missing/idling rough again and then dies. i get back in it and it starts right back up no problem got the jeep pulled backwards and get out to re hook the chain and it starts missing/idling rough again so i jump in a give it some throttle and it hesitates to gain rpm's (can smell gas fumes strong) and then clears up. i finely get it unstuck and take it to the car wash and left it running while i washed it off (30minutes) then i jump in it and go to the gas station and it starts the missing/idling rough again so i shut it off.

well today i get in it and when i stop at a red light the rpms go to around 500 and when i took off it feels low on power and if i give it some throttle it straightens up and runs fine for awhile and does it again.

The only codes it has throw are the following

p0443
Evaporative emissions purge solenoid control circuit

evaporative emission purge solenoid control circuit

emission purge solenoid control circuit

solenoid control circuit

p0136
Oxygen sensor heater bank 1 sensor 2 shorted to voltage

p0705
transmission range sensor a circuit (park/reverse/neutral/drive/low input)

p0135
oxygen sensor heater bank 1 sensor 1 pending

It also threw a cylinder 3 misfire code.

the cat has been cut off of the jeep. it has 145000miles on it.doesn't use any oil. still gets awesome gas mileage. I check the fuel pressure at the rail and it was 48psi idling.

I would be grateful for any help on where to start trying to fix it.

Thanks
David.

First, I'd do a basic tune-up. Plugs, wires, check and replace the dist. Rotor if necessary and an oil change.

While you're at it, check that the plug wires are connected properly. Buddy of mine bought one last week that ran for ****. So the PO sold it to him for $250.

He trailered it home and asked me to hwlp him track down the issue. The plug wires were all messed up. Fixed and he now has a new xj with 98k miles on it for $250! (lucky bastard...)

After that, I'd check the O2 sensor. If it's connected and no wires are bare or broken, pull it and check it. It's probably bad, but I can't say for sure.

See if that helps and let us know!

sounds like all the broken emissions equipment is throwing off your timing, get that stuff taken care of.

Its a coil on plug setup. it has a invoice in the glove box staying the oil was changed less then 1500 mileage. ill get some o2 sensors and try them.

I agree with Magik. Plugs first. Clear the codes. Run it. All that emissions stuff can be caused by that misfire. Could be the o sensor but plugs are cheap and easy. And if its the rear cat and doesn't have o2 sensors it won't throw a code or make it run funny. A 2000 probably has 2 more cats up tight under the intake manifold with 2 upstream and 2 downstream o2's.

Ive got spark plugs and Oxygen sensors that I'm putting in today.

Ive looked under the intake manifold and it has no cat's from the head to the muffler. The only oxygen sensors i see are one before where the big cat was and one after.

I'm sorry I have not replied yet, but the new baby is eating up a lot of my time lately. I'm not familiar with a coil over plug set up, so I don't know what further help I can be.
