I have a 98 xj sport 4x4 4.0l. Here's the problem I had my check engine light come on and a bog in second gear and throughout every gear after 1rst. It sat overnight and hasn't done it since. I hooked it up for the codes and got this. P0753 shift soleniod relay and p0700 transaxle control module. What would be the best way to go. The parts are real exspensive from autozone so cheap is good. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

try rockauto.com or morris 4x4 or teamcherokee
they usually have pretty good prices.....
and believe it or not sometimes, just sometimes, the dodge chrysler dealer will match or beat these prices.
give ya an example,,,,, the cruise control switch went bad in the turn stalk of my jeep.....I tried re-soldering wires etc etc...... frig it, i looked on line and the dealer, who had it in stock,, was only $2.00 more than the on line guys and it was available right then.
anyway, just a thought, best o' luck sir!

This issue is out of my leigue..but. Might he want to do the shift relay first, then check again. Might the trans-axle be "unhappy" with what it's getting from the trans? Just a thought.

Im not 100% on this without a diagram in front of me but I would have to say the relays for the shift solenoids are housed is the Transmission Control Unit. Possibly a bad TCU.

The solenoids are in the bottom of the trans and can be accessed by draining the fluid and dropping the pan. They can be checked for resistance through the 7 pin connector at the trans dipstick. IIRC 11-18 ohms is within spec.
S1 and S2 are shift solenoids and depending upon which is on/off determines which gear you are in. S3 is for the TC lockup.
I bought a NEW OEM TCU from Oconee Offroad for less than what the online outfits or Autozone wanted to refurb one. It probably isn't the TCU, and may be as simple as a dirty NSS or TPS going bad.

If it was just the Tps would it still throw a code for the shift solenoid and tcu? I did some reading and most have shift problems for a solenoid I have none. It shifts fine. Nice and smooth. Engine light comes on and goes off but no problem shifting

0753 sounds like a wiring issue or bad TCU. I would be more inclined to think wiring than TCU.
There is another guy over on chat with a similar problem, but in 4th only.
Unplug your TCU or pull its fuse and shift manually and see if you still have the problem. Without the TCU in play 1-2 gets you 1st only unless you exceed 4500rpm, 3 gets you 3rd only and D gets you 4th only. If you don't have a problem manually, its an electronic problem.
If you only had an issue once, you won't be able to duplicate it. It could be wiring becoming chafed, or a solenoid starting to go, but until its consistent you probably won't be able to find the problem. Don't throw $ at it blindly.
