Need some HELP again.. PLZ!
Hey everyone. I gotta get my 89 Cherokee back on the road ASAP. Winter is around the corner and I need my jeep BAD!
Here's the story: Jeep was sitting for a yr after it broke down on me on the way back from the mountain. Luckily it died right at the end of my block. It was having intermitent power loss when i gas it the gas and it would die on me sometimes while driving. So after a while i began work on it.
I replaced the following parts:
Finally got it home and checked for fuel by depressing the shrader valve on fuel line. Got fuel! So then i checked for spark. Found out that i was getting very little spark after cranking for a minute or so, i only had 3 sparks.
Then i replaced the ignition coil. After, I cranked the car but still wont fire. I haven't checked for spark since then as I am REALLY burnt on this now.
Anyone have any ideas?? I gotta get my XJ up and running again.
Thxs!!

I use to have a '88 XJ and it had issues with the crank sensor Connector. Try disconnecting and reconnecting it. and wiggle it while cranking the engine. also a common problem with the Renix XJ's is the large connector above/near the brake booster. Open/unbolt the connector halfs and you'll see the OEM brown nasty looking delectric greese. There should be NO corossion in there. Clean and regrease it if there is. then do the same wiggle test with that connector. Also check the ECM conectors(under the dash, box that says Bendix)
Just a couple ideas to try.
Good Luck!!

Grounds can be the root cause of many electrical gremlins. Refreshing grounds is NEVER a bad idea, and the investment of your time in this procedure is always well worth it! RENIX (87-90) are especially susceptible to ground issues.
You can't tell much of anything by looking at ground connections!! You must remove, scrape, clean until shiny the cable/wire ends and whatever they bolt to. Be sure to remove all paint from any ground connections.
Start with the one on the back corner of the head, and where it attaches to the firewall, as it deteriorates over time and is an area that makes it susceptible to damage. Best to replace that woven cable with a #4 or #2 gauge cable. You can attach the one end to the intake manifold if you would like.
Next go over to the engine dipstick tube stud. Remove the nut and clean the wire ends and scrape the block until shiny at the stud. Reattach tightly.
If you are so inclined, add at least a #6 cable from the negative terminal of your battery to one of the bolts on your radiator support.

Balast Resistor for the Coil. I replaced one on my '88 also. Temp fix is to jump it.
