just say you got it from an immediate family member(dad mother sister brother NO COUSINS) and you dont have to smog. even tho i could pass smog i decided to just take the easy way around it

Champion coppers should work fine, but I disagree regarding the NGK plugs. I run NGK V-Power plugs in everything I own, and I prefer them over anything else I've ever used.

i know NGKs are good plugs aswell but i figured id just stick with the champions

well the plan is going to be, put in a new ign, a battery and drive it to my house


at my house ill seafoam it, put in new plugs, possibley new cap/rotor also and see how it runs, pull the o2 sensor and bench test it, if its good then we shall try to smog it soon after

I also live in California and have an '88 XJ. I suggest that you do most of the maintenance suggested in this thread, however before you smog have a pre-somg test done and correct the failure problem before you run the actual smog check. Needless to say I hate Kalifornia!

yea I hate Cali too, I almost had to move to El Segundo for work not good, for 1 my Trans Am would be uber illegal smog wise and I would have to get another cat for my Jeep

i do hate smog but ive always wanted a jeep and this fell into my lap so i dont want to let it go, lol

what other vehicle did you have the NGK plugs in? when i had them in my jeep, the engine ran like a cat that ate grass out of the back yard (puke).

I am at the very end of probing every sensor, gas cap, evap. etc. and lord knows what else to pass smog on my '88 XJ project!
