Need an opinion
I recently purchased a 1997 jeep Cherokee, i believe it is a XJ type as the the research I have done on it has lead me to believe it is. I am having an issue with it at the moment it is a random occurrence the motor begins to hesitate like there is no fuel being delivered and then the check engine light comes on. I can give it full throttle and it will run but when I let off it starts back firing and continues to do so then it falls slat and wont take any fuel and almost completely stalls. It has the inline 6 4.0 L engine, any help with what the problem could be is welcome. Thank you for your time

Well first thing is get the codes read from the ecm to see if there are any sensors creating the fuel issue. If the check engine light was not lighting up, I would start with replacing the fuel filter, since you just purchased it, who knows when the last time it was replaced.
