Default Need Help! Transmission Pan Plug

So I decided to change my Tranny Fluid and Filter. I took of the Tranny Pan Plug Bolt to drain the fluid.

When I put it back on it would not tighten. It just kept spinning and now I cannot remove it. It just spins one way or the other.

Does anyone know what I can do to get that out?

I Hope the threads in the pan arent damaged because I dont have a Tap and die set and I cannot find a replacement pan at Auto Zone, Oreilly's or online.

Would I be able to just put some RTV on the bolt to keep it from leaking because it wont tighten down? Just until I can find a replacement.

Please help. I need to have the Jeep running by monday.

try putting a flathead in-between the bolt and the pan, and gently apply some downward force on the bolt while you loosen it, it may come out.

Or take a pair of pliers, grip the head, and gently pull while unscrewing.

See of Motormite/HELP! has an oversize replacement. If they do, put that in, and stamp "OS" on the pan near the drain hole to remind yourself (in case you lose the thing.)

The screwdriver trick works. If you can't get a screwdriver head in there, use a knife blade to start it. Once it starts it will come out. Then, go down to the auto parts store or worse yet, get an oversize drain plug from your local juffy lube. They strip them out all the time and carry these so they won't have to replace pans.

Drop the pan and see what the deal is. Maybe something inside let loose. If so you can hold on to it with plyers then unscrew it. Then reweld it. If nothing else. Drill the hole out. Get a fine thread nut and bolt. Weld the nut to the inside of the pan. Use a little rtv sealer and screw your bolt in.

There's nothing inside to let loose, really. It's a dimple that was punched through and threaded (probably using a rolform tap instead of a thread cutting tap - I've never really looked...) and the oversize plug is probably easiest.

In addition to HELP! and oil changers, try a transmission shop as well.

Agreed...

Pull the pan and then you can see the problem....oversize plug seems to be a good answer
