You can add a new steering stabilizer but that may be a bandaid covering something that requires some attention.
Do you have a tilt column because the u-joint there may be worn or the bolts could be backing out.

well, the steering is actually quite precise. i don't have any loose or non-responsive steering. it just feels a bit too light. so it kinda contributes to the wobble. u know as you're wobbling, you're moving the steering wheel more and more, causing more wobble.

i resurrected this thread for one reason... to thank some people. see, up until about 6 months ago, i had not had any experience with any jeeps except an old CJ7. now I can work my way around almost any possible issue with my XJ. got to thinking, and i wanted to extend my gratitude to people who gave me the first few steps... ThrottleJockey, Brett, EndlessMtFab, BlueXJ, FrankZ and many others that gave me the basics for owning an XJ. heck, 6 months ago i didn't even know that Jeep Cherokee is an XJ. being a lifelong mechanic and starting on a new brand of vehicle is not exactly the same thing. it's not all nuts and bolts. you gotta know that special touch. so, thank you fellas.

Hey Man ... you're quite welcome.
Contrary to my surly attitude .... I am all for helping new board members or folks new to Jeeps. Just gotta have an open mind and be specific in what you're trying to accomplish (rather than just throwing out general thoughts). Saves a lot of "going in circles" time.
It will only get worse for you. Meaning you're going to find more and more things you want to change or modify.
Basically ... you are screwed.

duude, i don't think there's much of anything i can't do to my XJ. i've been a mechanic since the mid 90's. but i've always fixed what's broken and left it at that. before the XJ, never done a lift kit, never researched a minor bolt-on performance upgrade. never needed to improve gas mileage. but with a stock XJ there's just so much that can be added on for extra reliability and performance. you gotta love it.
