Default Need help ground stud, renix.

So I went to replace the old and torn battery cables today and when I went to replace the negative from the block the stud spun with the nut. I've removed and cleaned the ground before so I didn't expect it to give as it did. Now I can't replace the cable or clean the grounds off. I tried to use a vice to hold the stud but nothing worked and so I tightened the stud as much as I could and put the old negative cable back on the battery. If I cut the cables associated with the stud can I then extract the stud out by turning the nut? Where should I get a new stud or bolt that will fit the block? Nothing like unforeseen hiccups to get in the way.

So the wire connectors and the stud are turning with the nut? Sheez, what fun...

I might try holding the wire "gang" sort of loosely with regular pliers. It might not take much force to get the nut loose. I might try tightening it a hair and see if that cracks it free or gets the stud to stay.

Yea, you can just screw in a new stud or bolt from the hardware or auto parts store.

Sometimes you "double nut" a stud. You get the two really tight against each-other, use that to tighten the stud, then with an open end wrench on one you loosen and remove the nuts.

I tried all those methods to keep the stud in place and nope. But if I can just put in a new bolt then that should be easy, but I'd have to drive and do it all in the parking lot.

Well...if it's working OK, maybe spray it with PB or something and try it again in a day or two...maybe it will loosen up. Sounds like It could save you allot of work if you can get the free.

Got it loose! Drove around for a little and tried it when the engine was warmed up at 210, nut came right off.

You can use a wrench to hold the tip of the stud.
