Unhappy need help! 95 cherokee 4.0 auto

I need to know what people might think. I have a 95' Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 and it has about 87,000 miles on it. I just got it from my mother in Utah and brought it to Northern Ca. Noticed that the temperature gauge stayed at 200 degrees continuously. I checked the radiator fluid, noticed that it was a pint low and that the over flow hole on the radiator was plugged. I unplugged it, filled the radiator and drove around. Everything seemed ok. As engine warmed up water would flow into over flow bottle and back into radiator as it cooled down. I also noticed that the temperature gauge was now working and would go to 200 and then you could see it drop down to 195 as thermostat opened. This would continue over and over. So, I was concerned that it overheated at some point in time. I took it ino the Dealer to make sure I had no issue with the Head or Head gasket leaking. Due to having only 2 days left on my Service Agreement. So, they did a pressure test on the cooling system and determined that the radiator tanks were leaking. The radiator was a covered item, when they got the radiator in they called me and I took the vehicle in to get fixed. They had replaced the radiator and valve cover gasket, called me and informed me that the new radiator that they installed was worse than the original one and it was damaged during shipping. I could not take the vehicle but they would have a new radiator in 2-3 days which they did. They called and told me to come pick up the vehicle that it was ready. What I am noticing now, vehicle warms up to 200 degrees whille driving, does not flexuate from 195-200. And when I come to a complete stop it actually goes up to 220 degrees. Why would this be so different if all they did was change my radiator? Sorry, to for writing such a long book, but I am concerned because with the new radiator in it, it seems to be running hotter than it was with the one that was leaking.

Thanks for any help

210* is operating temp, start to worry if it gets above 250* or runs constantly under 130*.

Hi and welcome to CF from Tj... It sounds like you need to "Burp" the air out of the system. Try this http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...BurpAirMod.htm This is for older systems but works for newer ones also. good luck...Tj

^that of the mechanical clutch fan is going out. Its easy to check: spin the mech fan by hand when the jeep is cold. Then drive it around and get it up to 200deg, turn it off and spin the fan by hand. It should be much hard to spin when hot

Also make sure the aux kicks on too

Thanks for info! Also wanted to know if my old radiator had a 13LB cap and never got over 210 to 195 when thermostat would open and it now has a new radiator with a 16LB cap, could this be why it is running hotter with new radiator and higher cap than it did with the old radiator

The #1 cause of "temp creep" at idle or parked is a worn out fan clutch.

IF this vehicle runs solid at 200-210 while underway, but creeps up at idle, REPLACE the fan clutch. It is a cheap part and relatively easy to replace.

BTW, a 16 pound cap is the correct cap for your XJ.
