Ok guys so I scored a metal tank skid a few weeks ago at the JY off a 89 xj. I tried to install it today. Had a few problems. Won't go over crappy plastic skid. Dumb question, but I assume I need to remove the plastic skid?
Next question, the holes in the skid and unibody line up, but theres no thread. What's best way to attach skid? I was thinking of welding a nut to the frame, but I also ordered a JCR rear bumper and it has tie-in brackets like so:

How do I attach the tank skid?

You need to get the piece that goes in the frame that has nuts welded to it. You will have to pull a bumper to get it out.

Thanks for the info guys. Those strips would be alot better. I know if I weld those nuts to the frame, it's going to cause problems w/those tie in brackets.
So once the rear bumper is removed, you slide those brackets in? Do they have to be welded to the frame somehow?
jonnyb, how much were those strips? I only paid $10 for the gas tank skid

Ok thanks. I'll pull my rear bumper off today. Maybe I'll weld the nuts to the inside or just place some in there.
As far as the plastic skid.. that has to be removed right? I can't remember if the xj I pulled the metal one from, had anything there or not.

Ok guys, so I got my metal tank skid installed.
I trimmed the plastic all off the sides, and the skid feet mouted to the frame. I just went to Ace and bought 4, 3/8" self tappers and drilled new holes in the skid and frame. I may add another screw on each side after my bumper is in. Was not that hard to do.
Thanks for all the help.
