I'm interested in testing my fuel ratio and was told I could an exhaust gas analyzer at Auto Zone for rent. Is there a specific one I'm looking for for an '87 Jeep XJ Renix-era 4banger? I'd prefer the one that uses the stock O2 sensor if possible.

 

no idea but a narrow band isn't going to tell you anything as they only measure from 13 to 14 afr. you actually need a wideband and i don't think mine and your 87 models use wideband sensors stock.

but, if you want something cool to build on your own that will tell you what your narrow band is reading, google building your own narrow band o2 sensor gauge. you buy the parts at radio shack and it takes about 1/2 hour of soldering and you have your own little bar gauge that reads off your o2 sensor. its about 1/2 x1" and the bar is green light so its inconspicuous.

 

on a side note, i have an lm1 or lt1 (don't remember hte model designation) wideband sensor and reader from diyautotune.com and it tells you everything. hook it up, wire the narrow band output into you normal wiring and run the laptop plug in the cabin and then you just plug you laptop in and drive around and it logs all your data.

i haven't put it in the jeep but i had it in my bmw when i built a standalone engine management system and it worked geat in that.

 

if it is a innovative LM1 it should have its own o2 sensor.....

 

Nice, where can I get one of those? As I understand the wideband is much more expensive than the narrow band, I just want to make sure I'm not completely out of whack. Was cleaning the fuel pressure regulator yesterday and I don't think I got it back to stock.

yes, mine came with an 02 sensor when i bought it. you can also use the mustang sensors form the early 90s (if i remember right) 5.0 and 4.6 mustangs.

 

you can use the o2 out of VW's to.. they are wide band.. i had LM1 on supra..and maft pro... Summitracing sells wideband kits .. they run about 300 for nice gauge and o2.....
