My wife has an 89 xj and it has the 3 vacuum lines that go to the front axle. Well those 3 lines are supposed to go to a little square piece before going to the disc on the axle. What is the square piece called? It's missing and I'm trying to get all the vacuum lines sorted out so it can pass emissions

Not familiar with this square piece but the vacuum-operated Central Axle Disconnect is unreliable and can be eliminated. You can also eliminate the vacuum lines that used to feed it, thus resolving your issue. No impact to emissions or testing.

Possibly the "block" you are referring to is a rubber junction deal. Two of the three lines go into this little rubber "block", that fits on the nipples on the disco. It's "stepped", since one nipple is farther in than the other. Btw they tend to fall off, is why I have a zip-tie, loosely holding mine on. (and a common reason they fail, causing some to, "throw the baby out with the bathwater".
Junk yard idem. I suppose without it you could rout the lines directly to the correct nipples. Just be sure they are secure so any limb or something can't knock them off.
Would be the black and yellow in this diagram. (I think).

There's two "camps" here. Some prefer to eliminate there vac disco, (you can), and some prefer to keep it. (mine works fine as designed).

The other camp here:
Ditch that troublesome set-up. They failed when new, not only due to vacuum issues, but shift fork design.
As Service Manager at a Jeep dealership in Prescott, we had them lined up out front along with pissed off customers, every snow day.
