Default Is my xj totaled?

two days ago someone rear ended my xj while i was waiting at a red light.
Good thing the person had geico as insurance. I talked to them yesterday and they said that my bby could be totaled since its an old xj. They are going to take it today to one of their shops or something for an estimate..

its a sport 99, 278000 miles and has a 3 inch procomp liftkit and I just put in them bfgoodrich allterrains ko 30's like two weeks ago. also have them ravines on it.

Even if it is take the money, buy it back from the insurance company for $400 and do a swap. I cant see the pic but do a kbb of what it was. Aka good or excellent, it might have been fair conditon but i doubt it. I know the newer XJs ran around 4500-5500 in kbb. Thats what they base it off of most likely. Then do a rough estimate of the damage cost and labor to fix. If its close to or over its prolly totaled

I can see it now... if the roof is ok and the quarters arent messed up at all, and the rear frame rails arent bent or messed up then maybe not. New hatch, paint, new lights, bumper, caps, brackets, labor, random misc. (bolts and whatever else you can think of such as a nice bumper coating from the auto store in a rattle can) maybe like $400-1000 depending on he shop and how you go about parts and labor costs.

It really doesn't look to bad. Looks like a new lift gate, bumper and tail light and maybe a few other thing should take care of it. Really can't see the side if the quarter panel is damaged. If they do total buy it back and fix it yourself. Good luck.

that doesn't look to bad at all, alot of guys on here are driving around with damage worse then that. if they total it buy it back, replace the hatch and you'll be good

BUT if they DON'T total it. You want a NEW hatch. NEW Taillight. NEW Bumper. NEW Bumper Caps. Dont let them give you crap parts at THEIR shop

I totaled my first XJ about a year ago and Progressive payed me out for it. They based the price not off of KBB but what local dealers were charging for a similar Jeep (which was great because that was WAY above KBB). When I asked about buying it back they said they don't do that anymore because of "liability and safety reasons". I don't know if other carriers are like that but I would ask before accepting a check, I've regretted that decision everyday since.

Thinking about what that would have done to my fiberglass hatch.... New ones are metal?

New style ones are, yes. I think if they have external hinges they are fiberglass. At least that's what I have noticed.

You probably do have some minor unibody dmg in the left corner/floor, unless it's just the bumper bracket that's bent. There's some misalignment there. you also have some pre-existing damages that could cause some value deduction, but probably minor $.

Do you have collision coverage on your policy? You can always have your insurance company handle it for you if the other driver's carrier's handling isn;t to your satisfaction. If you are not at fault, don't worry about submitting a claim, they already know about it anyway, if they care at all.

Buy-back (or owner retention of salvage) laws vary by state and insurance company practices, and are mostly influenced by state titling laws. I don't know where you are, but that could be a big factor for you.

Provide receipts for the tires, wheels, and lift, including labor, for consideration. Most $'s spent don't increase value, but proof of what you spent helps a lot. $800 in new tires doesn't increase the value of your Jeep $800, for instance.

they just took the car, well im in AZ but the only receipt I have is for them tires.
I hope they let me buy it back, I dont think i will be able to buy another one for 2500 or less since thats what the kbb says it costs poor conditions.
