The coolant temp sensor can cause all of the symptoms the OP listed IF it is bad.
When u start the jeep it will be hard to start and may not start at all because the temp reading is showing a temp of almost -40degrees so the comp can't adjust properly and will not allow a start condition.
That's one way it fails
The other is when the jeep starts it thinks it's already warm since the sensor is showing a higher reading than it should and as the temp climbs, the sensor goes off the charts. This causes a shut down.
Test, clean, and dielectric grease the CPS terminal and all of them for that matter.
THEN test the CTS (coolant temp sensor) driver side of the block above the motor mount.
May need to pull the airbox
Anyway
You are looking for high ohms at start 14,000 or so
Then very low ohms at operating temp 145 or so.
If this fails, it a $27 sensor at any parts store.

Hope this helps

Lol, I'm trying to get these threads answered and "closed" for both myself and anyone else that's curious. I have too many subscribed threads that OPs forget about

Have fun with tracing electrical... I'm still trying to find all mine after a year. (Po had an electrical fire in the trunk and the people that re wired it did a **** poor job. Didn't pull old wiring out and did a bunch of crap wrong.)
