My new project...completely original 1995 XJ 2.5 has a carb?
Hi all! New member and first post!
I stumbled across (and bought) a 1995 Cherokee XJ with a manual 2.5 petrol engine that's been sitting in a barn for around ten years. Iv'e always admired the XJ for its boxy styling and simplicity so got excited when I saw this thing lying in a barn feeling sorry for itself. I was slightly disappointed when I popped the bonnet and saw a four cylinder rather than a six but I was also happy it wasn't a diesel! I believe its Spinnaker blue from my investigations and it's a pretty basic sport model with vinyl seats, a stick and a steering wheel! The paint is bad from bird **** but underneath and the interior are near perfect.
So fast forward a few days and I got her home. The only thing I had to do was inflate the tyres and free the seized back brakes then she was loaded onto a trailer and towed to her new home. I dropped a battery into her, new spark plugs and hooked up an auxiliary fuel tank with fresh petrol and bang she fired up! Firstly I couldn't believe the engine started after so much time and secondly I was shocked to find she was on a mechanical fuel pump and a carb! This vehicle was manufactured in 1995 and put on the road in 97'. Surly this thing should be injected?? I plan to carry out a lot of maintenance to the engine to bring it back to its former glory so I would I would love to hear any opinions or advice on this engine which i'm pretty happy is so simple.
Thanks for reading!

It comes back as year of manufacture 1995 & date of first registration July 1997! Maybe it has had a conversion or engine swap at some point?
