Default My MPG is awful! Help

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport and I am getting awful gas mileage (13-14 mpg city) and everything with the exception if the exhaust is stock. I have tried new spark plugs, new injectors, fuel cell cleaner, fuel injector cleaner, and 93 fuel. If someone has any other ideas please help!

New spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, o2 sensors, clean the throttle body, seafoam through the vacuum hose going to the brake booster, replace all the fluids (oil, differentials, transfer case, coolant) and filters (oil, fuel and air)

is your jeep throwing any codes?

auto or manual? stock or lift? what size tires?

my '97 auto 4.0 on 225/75/15s is getting about 225 miles per 14.5 gallon fill up = 15.5 mpg. 190k on it. I drive about 70% city/30% hwy.

1. It's not that unusual to see the gas mileage you are experiencing. Be sure that you are doing the math. Miles drive divided by gallons consumed. Get at least three samples before coming to any conclusions. Don't try to extrapolate your mileage by the amount of miles you get per tank of gas.

2. Average gas mileage is between 15-21 mpg for an XJ with a 4.0 As they say, your results may vary. Some a little below; some a little above. Depends on the vehicle, outside temperature, driving habits, state of tune, etc.

2. Skip the 93 octane fuel. It won't get you any better gas mileage. Octane is an anti-knock index and that really is all. Your 4.0 will run just fine on regular (87) octane gasoline. Save your money.

I would clean the throttle body, IAC and replace the O2 sensors with a good brand

Check to see if you exhaust manifold has any cracks.

IF you pop the hood you may be able to hear, see, smell the leak.

you think u have it bad? My 1999 stock gets 10-11 city. I'd be thrilled to get it up to 13-14. I've done everything suggested above except the o2 sensors. The really strange thing is I took it yesterday on a 120 mile highway roundtrip and it gets 23mpg on the highway.

I'm constantly amazed by how my gas mileage responds directly to how aggressive my driving is. I can get between 14 and 22 on the same trip to school every day (20 minutes, mostly curvy back roads) depending on just how aggressively I put my foot on the pedal and what the "Traffic" in town is like. You could just have a stuck accelerator control module (read: lead foot). Happened to me

Yeah about that accelerator control module... There is snow and I have been pretty stressed lately with finals so I am just over a notch above 1/2 at 80 miles... Ouch
