I found this while I was checking the head gasket and replaceing my headers, now its the worst sludge I've ever seen the vc was so packed the rockers wore a place in the sludge, there was no room for oil at all, and now I have low oil pressure 10 - 20 how would I clean the botom half aside from using my hands, this stuff is thick! Or is it to late...

Ive had that before, just cleaned it good and did several oil changes with a hi detergent oil and a good filter, that engine still ran for years. I would make sure the hole in the center of the pushrod isnt blocked.

Do NOT spray brake clean into your rockers!!!! Very good way to wash all your lower end bearings then your engine will be gone....you can also prime the engine before you put the valve cover back on to make sure your top end is reciving proper lubrication.

I run 2050 rotella in all my jeeps, no problem. That's a ****ty filter and 20,000 between changes. I love rotella in jeeps, takes ALOT more abuse and heat to break it down. I still change it every 3500 or so.

I second this, I would also drop the pan to see/clean everything then run some sea foam or something so I could clean the valleys.

Sea foam breaks ALOT of stuff loose, be sure everything is cleaned out you can get out before sea foaming it. If you seafoam it like that guarantee you will plug your oil passages up.

Obviously, somebody used Quaker State oil.

Put the cover back on and pretend you never saw this.

You start trying to break that crap up, there will be Hell to pay.

Don't do anything suggested. We deal with this ALL the time with Volkswagens. Notably the Passat 1.8T. You can use our VW process to repair this issue. If you dont handle properly and in a timely fashion it will cost you your motor.

Here is what you need to do.

First locate your nearest VW dealership and head to the parts dept. and purchase the VW Dynamic Engine Cleaner made by BG Part No. 103192. Understand this IS THE REAL DEAL, it is the ONLY product capable of dissolving harden sludge. This is 6 quart bottle with fluid that smells like turpentine.

Next hit up a auto part store and purchase 12quarts of oil and 2 cheap *** fram oil filters and 1 high end oil filter(pure1, AC delco, Mobil, Mopar). And purchase an oil pan gasket and a new oil pump pick up tube.

Now you have all the part and fluids, start of draining oil and replacing oil filter with cheapo filter.

Fill up the crank case with the whole bottle of the VW flush.

now here you need to start the jeep and running the engine at approx. 2,000rpm for 20 minutes.

After 20minutes you are to shut off the engine and IMMEDIATELY DRAIN THE FLUSH out the crankcase. Now be careful it will be very hot!.

Now you need to replace oil filter again with the other cheapo filter.

Refill crankcase with 6 quarts of oil, then start engine and hold 2,000rpm for 20 minutes once again.

Now heres where you do work. Drain oil. Remove oil pan, replace oil pick up tube, reinstall oil pan with new oil pan gasket. torque your oil pan bolt to approx. 80-100 inch pounds.

Replace you oil filter with good oil filter, refill oil. Enjoy your happier 4.0L.

Go from OLD and Busted

To new hotness
