I was curious about how my Jeep came optioned. It has 20 gallon tank, skid plates, and what appears to be a VERY strong limited slip diff. Very few other options though. Anybody got one of these LSDs? It feels like a locker!

People scour the JYs and seldom come across a XJ with these options.

 

Cool! So it was a score. I just didn't know about the LSD. If it is actually a locker or a limited slip. It actually chirp when I turn sometimes.

 

A diff fluid change may be in order as the previous owner, may not have added friction modifier, as this is required to prevent binding. Just a thought.

 

Can you explain? I was planning on changing all the fluids this weekend. Is this an additive I can get at Oriely's?

 

A friction modifier is something that you add to your diff fluid. I believe that it helps to adjust the amount of slip so that your tires do not chirp (skid) around corners.

Do not add any - no slip.

Add too much - all slip.

Add just the right amount - limited slip that kicks in when required.

You generally buy it in single use bottles (approximately an 8 oz bottle).

I am not sure if Oriely's carries the friction modifier.

As a former employee of oriellys i personally know that my store had it in stock at all times. It is a white bottle about 6 to 8 ounces with a red label. They normally place it in the same area as all the diff fluids.

Like stated its available separate, or if you look the bottle of gear oil will say Safe for Limited Slip Differentials .
