Wow I can't believe people are still recommending dino oil and Lucas. Synthetic is like the perfect oil molecule. You never need anything heavier then 5-30.90 xj wix filter 5-30 full syn. Next change will be 5-20 full syn. Lucas works well in differentials. Look for deals on syn.

So a guy I work with told me I should go with Synthetic, but how do I know which kind of Synthetic to get? And what about the filter? I've never worked on a Jeep engine before so its all new to me.

Like I said synthetic is Damn near perfect oil. Just look for a deal on a name brand... they aren't a while lot different. I got Pennzoil platinum 5-30 2 for the price of 1.. at a reg price of 8$ a quart I saved a good amount. Everyone swears by Mobil 1... I like it. Used it in other cars... but most other are very similar so I go for the deal. On the filter no fram! Wix napa k&n mopar purolator . NO FRAM!

Hello. So I got pennzoil 5w-30 high mileage vehicle synthetic. And a Mobil extended performance filter. Does that sound about right?

Sounds good. For future ref you really don't need high mileage . Won't hurt anything though

Ok so I opened the box of oil I bought thinking it was synthetic. I guess that shows how much I read things. Its not synthetic. So how does pennzoil platinum full synthetic 5w-30 sound?

That's what I'm running. Works great. I got it 2 for the price of 1.... most synhetics are very similar. My engine is quiet cool and smooth.

What engine do you have? My 4.0's filter goes on threads down, I'd love to pre-fill but gravity wont let me.

I Hate to keep asking the same questions that have probably already been answered however I have some questions regarding full synthetic vs. Regular conventional oil. Which would be the best for my jeep? It's a 4.0L 6 cylinder with 120k on the odometer. I have no records of prior oil changes or anything like that so I have no clue what the last person put in it however I would like to convert my jeep to synthetic. Can someone help me with a good brand of oil I need along with a good oil filter? I've always used fram but ive read on here fram is bad so which should I choose. Thanks for all the help guys

Go for it! Full syn... Mobil is great but most are very similar as far as name brands go.5-30 full syn and a wix filter is what I'm running in my 90. Syn cleans up your engine, has lower coefficient of friction, doesn't break down as fast and has great film strength. I'm using Pennzoil platinum because I got it on sale two for one. Normally 8$ a quart. Just look for a deal. The reason some people experience leaks is due to the fact that syn cleans crap off the seals and reveals seals that are already bad.

Synthetics are all manufactured so they are all basically the same. I remember before synth's hit the market everyone used fillers.
Castrol was caster bean oil, Pennzoil was ash (left **** all over blocks my old man tore down.)
So I am still partial to Mobil1, Kendall and Lucas, long good track record in my vehicles.

Filters are another story, I've run Fram, Mobil1 and K&N in all my cars (DD's & racecars) never had one work better than the other. Though I liked the K&N's because there is a 1" nut on the end of the can that makes removal nice and simple.
