My 1st oil change on my jeep!!!! i need help
I know that there have already been threads on this but heres my problems i got my jeep back in july. its a 2000 cherokee classic, 4.0 I6, auto tranny, my dad picked it up for me while i was volunteering at a youth camp and he got some of the fluids chinged. it is time for me to now change it again.
Questions-
1. is the high millage oil really needed (168,XXX miles)
2. i need to go w/ real oil not synthetic right?
3. i know that this is stupid but its 5 quarts right??
Thanks!

1. no, high milage for a 4.0 is up around 300,000.
2. it's up to you, but with 160,000 on mine I run regular 10w30.
3. 6 quarts.
when you take your oil filter off, make sure the rubber gasket comes with it.
if your filter is stuck on, you can but 'sockets' for oil filters (autozone et al) that fit a 3/8" drive ratchet.
when you put the new filter on, lube the supplied gasket with oil... just a smear will do.
hand tighten it "snug"... if you sinch it down it will leak.
Have fun.

put in 5 quarts, run it for about 5 minutes and pour in another quart..that way the oil gets into the filter and it makes the level lower so add in another quart..also do what everyone else mentioned too..

Hmmm
This topic has produced numerous threads and colorful discussions.
I suggest visiting bobistheoilguy.com and read up on oil. You can then comfortably make your own decision.
I use Pureone Purolator filters. They rated very highly with consumer reports.
Because you asked, I use mobil 1 5W-30.

I run Mobile 1 full synthetic and my Jeep LOVES it! Runs much smoother now with the synthetic than it did before. At $21.99 per oil change (plus $7 for a filter), I consider $30 pretty inexpensive.
