Multifunction switch
Been shopping for a multifunction switch is there a the possibility of being able to use one for a tilt steering wheel on a non tilt column?
Everything I see is for a tilt column I have seen a few for the non tilt column but they're like three times the price just curious

On my 90' the parts are different dimensions and tilt has 2 more wires. Also the non tilt is best/quicker to pull the whole column to access the bottom side screws that holds the 2 housing halves together. I told myself after I put in the switch, going to wrecking yard for a tilt column rather than work on that non tilt one again.

OP has a 96 model. That used the same switch as the 95 model, pre 95 models used a differnt switch as did 97+ models. So it was only in the Jeep for two model years. ON the upside that whole steering column area, wheel, airbag, switches ect were pretty standardized Chryco parts used across a bunch of different models at that time. I wonder if you could search some other Chrysler model from that era like a Town and Country, Lebaron, Dakota, or Ram truck and find the switch easier on a place like ebay.
Rock Auto does carry replacements. Not OEM obviously but they look the same just looking at the pictures. I tried checking Team Cherokee because they have a selection of sometimes hard to find OEM parts but they only have the Pre 95 multifunction switches.
I can't imagine the tilt vs nontilt being an issue for that switch though the Rock Auto link does show the economy switches being listed for tilt and non tilt and the standard replacements being for intermittent vs non intermittent wipers. That I can see being an issue more than the tilt thing.
A good place to check would be with your local dealer they have access to a lot of parts information and my local parts department has been a big help in deciphering some of these year model splits as far as parts go. Lucky for me one of the guys at the parts counter likes my XJ so he's pretty helpful and I help them out by buying some of my parts there.

This is pasted from the parts catalog for 94-96. Both of these part
numbers are discontinued so aftermarket or junkyard are your only
options. But it looks like you can use either one with or without tilt.
Depends if you have intermittent wipers or not.
4728-424 1 XJ w/ or w/o tilt 95-96 ***
4778-760 XJ w/o Intermittent Wiper (w/ or w/o Tilt)
Junkyard search: (look for "column switch")

PS: the catalog says that 4728-424 was also used in 94-95 ZJs with tilt.
