Default ignition switch/87 wagoneer

Back to the old drawing board again. Been looking at some of the pics on getting the steering column loose and to the ignition switch. I figure the problem must be in the ignition switch, so I need to replace it. The Chilton book I have shows a different type of ignition switch with screws on the side to loosen to access the switch. Mine has no screws on the side to access the switch. I need to get to the ignition switch, and I suppose it is inside the column somewhere. The round lower shroud covering the lower half of the steering column needs to come off. Is there a special tool for taking this off. Thanks!

The actual switch is located on top of the steering column. The part you put the key into is not the actual switch. You need to drop the column to gain access to the switch. HTH!!

Your right. I had a mechanic look at it, he isn't able to work on it, but I am getting a switch for it today, he said the same thing drop the steering column. Is that difficult. He said just unbolt 3 bolts from firewall and the column should drop. Or is there more to this. I don't want to get into another situation where the book says this and that but doesn't show diddly.

Three bolts on the floor board, and two up on the column, right where it enters the dash. I think that will do it...

Thanks for info. I fixed her up. Yea, it is 4 bolts under column, and 2 bolts on firewall. Wish I had known this from the beginning. After, finally figuring it out, it was the ignition switch, a mechanic showed me. Saved me a lot of time. Chilton sucks!
