Interesting... I'd be really curious to see the detailed spec data sheet on that puppy... as I've always used the T6 in my XJ... personal preference for mine.

Isn't that too thin? I wouldn't use a /20 in my Jeep and I live below 80 degrees most of the time.

There's a thread over on BITOG. Stuff is expensive. Even compared to Mobil 1, they also don't make it in a 10W30. It's made for modern trucks/suvs with modern engines which require lighter weight oil. IT IS NOT RELATED TO ROTELLA HEAVY DUTY DIESEL OIL, and does not have the higher levels of ZINC additive that the regular Rotella has, so don't get fooled by the Rotella name. In fact in the BITOG thread a Shell rep answered questions and specifically said that they do not recommend this oil for flat tappet engines.

https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forum...il-q-a-answers

21. What is the target application for this oil? Is this oil designed to overcome the challenges of new turbocharged V6 and 4 cylinder truck engines or is this for more traditional pushrod V8 applications?
a. Shell Rotella Gas Truck is all about hard work and we know that many gasoline-powered pickup and SUV drivers, particularly those with 4x4 vehicles, use their trucks for hard-working purposes. The intended applications are trucks and SUVs that experience extreme conditions such as hauling, towing, off-roading and even stop and go traffic. The product meets API SN+ which is aimed at protecting turbo-charged engines against the damaging effects of LSPI (low-speed pre-ignition). So yes, it is applicable for new turbo-charged V4 and 4 cylinder trucks. For V8 trucks with traditional pushrod applications you mention, customers often times seek a higher level of zinc content. In this case, we recommend you use Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 full synthetic heavy duty engine oil or Shell Rotella T4 Triple Protection 15W-40 as they contain a higher level of zinc.
24. Always looking for easy to find motor oils for flat tappet non-catalyst cars. Would you recommend this oil for that application?
a. You have a more specialized application that requires the use of more zinc. In this case, we recommend that you continue to use Shell Rotella T4 Triple Protection 15W-40 and Pennzoil Ultra in your newer vehicles.

Yeah, my Corolla uses 20 weight oil, 0w-20 or 5w-20.

I use 5-30 or heavier in my XJ.

Especially since a 5qt bottle of Mobil 1 high mileage synthetic has been on sale at Walmart for $22 and change for a couple of months.

I can usually find my T6 for around 17-19/ 5qt bottle. Which isn't bad... but while I'm still in AZ (actually heading to TX very soon).... for some strange reason, finding T6 is tough here. it's like paying for RP at auto parts stores here for Pete's sake...
so when I do find it at Wally World... I stock up for the next change because they only charge like 18 for that same jug of T6.

I rarely buy my fluids from anywhere else but Wal Mart anymore unless I have one of those 20 dollar rewards things on my Autozone rewards card. Then it makes it a little more worth it.

Me either... it's the same stuff...just costs less... Every once in a blue moon they will have a good sale on...but generally it's Walmart for my T6 and Wix....and she's happy for another few months
