I would just recommend going to a good local exhaust shop. Then you can pick what you want and how you want it done. Make sure they have a mandrel bender.

Another good mod is the APN header which is a direct bolt on replacement which flows much better then the factory setup.

APN header can be found at http://www.ineedparts.com/auto-parts...-manifold.html

Just doing a complete exhaust upgrade fromt manifold all the way back you will notice a big difference in how it runs. Also that APN header will only work on 91-99 XJ's with the 4.0.
I'll refer to this post later. At this point, the muffler issue is just holding me back from getting my lift kit. The recall got me an OEM cat, so I imagine that I'm restricted as it is. I'm thinking I'll get a decent muffler now and upgrade the entire system later. Welding isn't an issue, so we'll see what I end up with.

That is a DIY system. a muffler will require cutting/welding to install and the rest of your exhaust is prob rusty so you should just get the cat-back.
Why flat black? Oh and welding is not an issue, so I'm not concerned about cutting/welding for an install. It sounds fun.

There is nothing the exhaust shop would do that my buddy's and I couldn't for this project. That is why I'm seeking forum advice for the muffler.

I have a Flo-pro that I got from performancepeddler.com It looks like a FM, really heavy duty and has a great sound at idle. Freeway speeds it's hardly noticeable. Price is great too, around $40. It's my muffler of choice for all my 4 wheeled vehicles now! They don't show it for jeep on the website but if you call them they will give it to you.
