I bet your previous owner never swapped the speedo gear. you're getting better than you think.

have you checked your speedometer compared to a gps? remember, an improperly calibrated speedo will result in a misread on your odometer.

you're not "hypermilling" at all if you're only getting 19mpg out of a renix. even at 80mph.

renix get BETTER gas mileage than H.O.'s do...if they're properly maintained.

I found putting mine in 3rd not in O/D gives me better mileage and performance in city driving. When your going 35 up hill in O/D leaving your throttle the same shift it in 3rd you will need to let off the gas to keep it at 35. The same with a standard shift let it rev a little higher before you shift so your not pushing as far on the skinny pedal to keep it going the desired speed dont lug the motor.

My 4.0 I6 1993 gets 13-15 in town, and about 18-20 motorway... and I drive it very gently - Fuel prices here (uk) are a nightmare, so I rarely push it above 2500 rpm. Its well serviced, with an aftermarket air intake. Ive just bought a 2.5L turbo diesel 1998 4 door limited(keeping the 4.0L, just wont drive it in town as much). Ive heard the 4 cylinder diesel turbos can get 36mpgs average when serviced and driven correctly... I REALLY hope thats true!.

I forgot to mention that I have 230,xxx miles on my Jeep, keep it loaded with my recovery gear, and sometimes drive it like I stole it.

Hypermilling does not help on the interstate cruising at steady speed. It is great around town when you can predict the light changes, brake early, coast up to the light, and get the green light while you are still doing 30 MPH. This way, you do not waste the fuel it takes to accelerate all that mass back up to 30 MPH again.

Upgrading your injectors will improve performance. Get injectors with 4 holes to vaporize the fuel better will increase HP and fuel economy. Put a new fuel filter in first and run a tank or two with about 4 oz of acetone to clean the fuel system before you change the injectors.

[QUOTE=Anthonyb;673280]I should hope so! Mine will do like 75-80 on the highway! j/k I get what you're saying but I couldn't leave that one alone!

Well spotted! MPG, MPH I still get confused even though I've lived here in the USA for just over a year. It's even worse, because although I'm Dutch, we used to live in the UK and of course British MPG are different from US MPG.

But to be honest, when I fill up here in the US, I still smile. Be it an empirial gallon or a US gallon, fuel is still dirt cheap compared to Europe.

I've been keeping track of my gas mileage for the last 3 months, ever since I bought the thing. When i do mostly highway driving, I get 20-21 MPG. When I mix city into the drive it goes down to about 17 MPG. Lowest I have gotten is 16MPG out of a tank, but that was early when I was still testing it out

I bet you do! I still have family in Scotland and their prices for fuel are ridiculous. I still remember when I was in high school and gas was $1.09, oh the glory days...
