Yeah you guys are not getting between 25-30 mpg highway, that is just about impossible unless you drive right up against a 18 wheeler the entire time to draft. With my 4 BANGER i got around 25 mpg if I was very easy on the gas and didnt go over 60. Now that im lifted i get like 20 on the highway. These things are essentially bricks on wheels, and if you know anything about aerodynamics then you know that boxes arent really aerodynamic at all. Also, these things are only rated to get like 15 city/20 highway.

Yeah, I had to amend my statement there
but pretty sure I pull 23-25 hwy, and as I said my in town is pretty accurate. I have a new rotor and cap, new plug wires, K&N air filter, new exhaust from the cat back, brand new rear suspension and a brand new radiator. So it should have decent MPG considering... I'm also a pretty conservative driver so no excessive acceleration, peeling out, etc... I take 'er pretty easy as I've grown out of that phase of my life!

Didnt mean to rag specifically on you, I've seen many others say the same thing. And mine gets HORRIBLE city now. Not only because of bigger tires, but also because of my urge to fly through the gears from time to time lol. Still havent grew out of that, especially if im pissed off that day which seems to happen alot more often nowadays

lol, no worries dude, I didn't take it to mean me specifically, but as for my initial statement it was warranted. I just wanted to clarify my situation a little better. And I hear you, my job gets me angry as hell, but I try not to take it out on my baby, it's my only wheels and I need to take care of them. I have big plans for her in the mountains of CO when I finally get my *** in gear and move out there!

16+ MPG average around town on a 1990 5sp 4WD 4.0 liter. Highway 19 MPG running 80MPH. Google "hypermilling". It is a change in driving style that will improve your mileage around town.

You want an instant increase in MPG quit buying Ethanol.
that alone should net you an increase in MPG.
Its takes more alcohol to produce that same power an Straight Gas.
Its not uncommon to loose 3mpg on Ethanol.
forgot to add, if I wanted to get 10mpg I'd just drive my 460 powered Ford Bronco.
Thats half the reason to own a jeep better mpg's and the other half, I got a wife and kids.

I'm talking about standard gas, most places have a percentage of Alcohol in it. Places that don't will typically advertise "No Alcohol in our Gas".

you learn to look for those places when you ride a motorcycle, especially dual sport bikes, they're run like crap on ethonol.
I didn't say E85....

ive done everything to mine plugs wires cap rotor new o2 sensor and i was still getting 12mpg mixed city/highway and i dont drive like an *** either i accelerate slowly i try not to let it rev past 2250 its a 4.0 automatic 2wd on 31x10.50
i took out the stock intake and put a home made intake with a nice oil foam filter on it and now i get 16 mpg mixed city/highway around town i get like 10 mpg
and on the highway i get like 16-17
im gonna get neon injectors pretty soon because mine have over 200k miles and im sure theyre gummed up

you're wrong. speedo calibrated to the gears and tires, 100% accurate, miles traveled divided by gallons to fill, my cherokee is fully capable of getting 24-25mpg no problem, and it's a 4.0.
maybe 30mpg is wrong, but 25mpg is just fine. it's been proven by more than 1 person that an I6 is a better solution than an I4 in these cherokees for fuel mileage. it's called power to weight ratio...and your I4 is just about maxed at 25mpg.
honestly, with the right cam in it, you could reduce your torque curve so that your torque meets hp at a lower RPM, bringing the "sweet spot" of the motor down from 2200-2500rpm closer to, say 2000-2200 rpm. with that done, the right tire size and gear ratio, there's no reason a 4.0 shouldn't be able to get 20mpg city, and 28mpg highway.
