Default Moving to Dessert Hot Springs, CA. Need advice!!!

Hey guys. What can I do to keep the monster from overheating in the palm dessert during the summer months. Mechanical mods only, I'm not going to cut the hood for venting.

Thanks in advance!!

Just keep it properly tuned and maintained, should be fine.. Maybe add a HD Fan Clutch and a Trany Cooler. Vents won't make it run any cooler, just lets some heat out.

The hood vents actually will help it run cooler. More hot under hood air is vented allowing a higher volume of air to pass through the radiator which helps in heat transfer, and preventing a heat sink type of situation.

They do help the radiator a little, BUT they do nothing to make it RUN cooler. Best thing is a properly maintained XJ. ADD-ON cooling is great, but SHOULD not be needed for the DD rig, or used to correct a cooling issue.

I drive through CA deserts all the time with mine. Just keep it maintained an a watchful eye on coolant levels and you shouldn't have any problems...riverside to Vegas in July was no problem for my xj...btw...you need to check out truckhaven while you are here...best most interesting desert wheeling by far, and also big bear too, John bull, dishpan/deep creek, fun fun trails! Lots of rocks!

go to walmart and purchase a bottle of glycerine and several bottles of $1 distilled water

water wetter is basically glycerine... just research how much to run, I forget the mix... also change it back before it gets cold

I live in Murrieta which gets hot and I wheel out in truckhaven all year round...just spend the 250.00 or so and replace w/pump, radiator, fan clutch and 195 tstat. Give it a good flush and you should be good to go...mine stays at 200 all day long. pm me if you ever want to play out there...lots of great wheeling places out here

They help the radiator, BUT they do nothing to make it run cooler?
Sorry, this makes no sense.

They do help it run cooler by allowing more air through the radiator which increases the cooling effectiveness of the coolant passing through the radiator, and by venting hot air out of the engine bay.
Yes, the best thing is a properly maintained cooling system, but saying that hood vents do nothing to make it run cooler isn't true.
