I should add that I also put in a brand new pump this winter chasing this problem. It sucks to have to go there and get your eyes ripped out on price, but it is a hell of a lot better than chasing your tail and having issues.
You can also run 70/30 mix which will help cooling, but if it gets cold at all in the winter I would make sure to change back to 50/50 for the winter.
Sometimes I guests its better to go oem and get parts from the stealership.
Should be cool with 70/30 then. Im not sure how low that protects to but obviously if the temp stays above 32 you are golden lol.
Just remember when you go someplace that gets cold you go back to 50/50.

Well besides the fan clutch the stat is the next easiest thing to replace so I'll probably just go ahead and do it this weekend. I really don't mind throwing money replacing parts cuz it gives me the security that I know its a new part. I'm the third owner of this xj the previous being my best friend. He took care of it but barely. In the year and a half that I've owned it I've replaced and upgraded more things than he did in the 5 years he owned it. I'm just glad that at 178,000 miles its still running pretty well.

When I lived in Palm Desert I had an 86 porsche 944, only way I could keep that thing from overheating was to run the defrosters on full blast on the 115+ degree days. Was not fun =(

Just installed a crap T-stat from O'Rielies. Going OEM now. Any functioning T-stat will be open at operating temp. I'm the last guy to can good parts, but after seeing a couple pic's of pumps with the blades rotted off I see that a non leaking pump with a good bearing can still be shot. (I think Djb has one)(Pic)
