Default Motor went, is this still useable? PICS INSIDE

Head gasket in fact didn't blow but was loose and let coolant into the cylinder. Oil was all around the rear cylinder as well. The #2 as you can see has some gouging or something but it's raised.
Just wondering if this is something I could bore out or should I just buy the new motor?

That's melted piston stuck to the cylinder wall.

You might want to try honing the cylinders, then remeasure to make sure everything is within specs.
Just don't use a dingleberry hone. They are harder to use and can have undesirable results.

Yea, like Pete said, looks like part of your piston smeared off there.
Sorry btw. Although the bore it's self of course matters, the "taper", might be what draws the line between just renting a ridge reamer and honing it, OR going full bore.

Coming at it from another direction, when you are just conditioning the walls for new rings maybe, but something about using straight stones just sounds better to me. (those stones will ride up in a ring ridge, making the taper WORSE btw.). You take off the ridge first.

How many miles? Can you catch your fingernail on any of the ridges? Why did this happen? Might have been a little warm?

disassemble the engine, Check the bore for wear and taper, if its within spec use some acid to remove the aluminum from the cylinder walls, then hone it....

What do you think he should do with the missing and melted aluminum from the piston ring lands?

Mix it with some " The works" and make a toilet bowl cleaner bomb? HAHAHA, i am just kidding. DONT do that, you could get hurt... Nah, like i said just use the acid to remove the aluminum from the cylinder walls. Then buy some new pistons, rings and bearings. then reassemble after a thorough cleaning of the block.

It got hot and the head gasket gave out. Blew coolant as well. My finger nail can catch on the ridges. My neighbor looked at it and said the thought it went through to the water sleeve around the cylinder wall. But I don't think I could be positive without doing a pressure test?

Found a 95 long block for 450 and a 98 for 780. I'm think I can drop the 95 in with my 98 head. And then slowly build this back stroked for another project or to sell.

Well, its not rocket science. The rings only wear the cylinder wall where they touch it. That unworn space between the head surface, and down where the ring fits in the grove on the piston, is still un-worn. If you can catch your finger nail on it there is clearly some wear.

Worse, as combustion drives the piston down it tends to wear the cylinder more down lower, than above. So if you gave NO ring ridge and no "taper", you're looken good.

You can rent a deal you crank like an old ice cream maker that cut's off that ridge that's left. Then you "hone", (rough up), a little of the surface so the new rings can seat. Having those rings seated, on a piston that fits in it's bore well enouth that the skirts aren't smacking around. (piston slap), and good rod bearings will go a long ways toward having an engine that works.

Always, the cylinders are is honed, before installing new rings.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to order the new long block and begin a slow restoration of this one, stroked to 4.7 and when the time is right maybe drop it in something.

ok i dont mean to hijack the thread(i did read it and my problem is similar.
My 1990 went out on me last weekend. shot out the black plume o death smoke out the exhaust. **** on the pavement(gas station owner was NOT happy about that scorch mark) i am guessin my piston rings are shot. i have the feelin based on past expericane with engines that i will have to pull apart the motor to replace them. but i not too sure.. any quick ways to do this without pullin apart the motor? cuz i know it will be a pain in the *** to do....
