motor swap
i have a 87 that slung a rod was wonder if i can take me long block off my 91 and use it in my 87 wasn't sure if the blocks was the same or not

As long as they are both 4.0s your fine. Just like you said just use the long block out of the 91 and put it in your 87. Just remember to use everything from your 87. Intake,dist PS, alternator, bla bla bla. O and make sure you use yout flexplate from the 87 because they changed it in 91.

I put an 88 in my 91 with no problems. lol I know its backwards but the price was right.( free and rebuilt) Now you will have the 7120 head and its way better than the one that was on your 87

thanks alot a guy i know said it would but i was just wantin to get a second opinion he said he thought there was some sensors that he had to be changed. well guess i will get after it

You need a block and crank let me know. Your not to far away.
If you want to do a complete rebuild.
I just swapped 4.0's in my 87, but it was 88 to 87 model so everything was a direct swap.
I thought I read somewhere that the renix injection was used until 94 I think it is. If so then your 91 swap should be a simple straight forward chore.

if the 91 is an HO you will have to do some swapping huntingman has a write up on putting a HO in a RENIX jeep without having to do too much..here is the link:
