From what I've read so far its practically a tachometer... my speedo, trip counter, and tach on the instrument panel have been out since April (been using a GPS for speedo), could there be a connection between those problems?

VSS, got it. Yes, the dash lights work. All instruments on the panel work except the speedometer, trip, and mileage counters. I think I said tachometer earlier which is incorrect, the tacho reads normally.

I'm now brewing a pot of coffee and I plan to spend the day pampering the Jeep. Checking/cleaning the connections, giving her some fuel injector cleaner, changing the spark plugs and wiring, and cleaning the interior and windows.

Alright. I've kinda put the VSS issue on the backburner. I gave her a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment with my last fill-up and new spark plugs and wiring are in. It was my first time ever doing that myself, took about two hours and a round hundred dollars worth of toolkit expansion (but I've not felt so satisfied in a long time; patience was the key). There was enough corrosion and white powder to make a brick out of. I brushed it off and added diaelectric grease to all the terminals.

She runs a little smoother now, presumably because all cylinders are firing in equality, but the lifters are making more noise than ever it seems and I found a lot of dry-rot among the rubber hoses and plastic bits under the hood, which disturbs me. With my next paycheck I'll be focusing on the VSS issue (I have to find the thing first). The motor hasn't shut off on me in a few days, so knocking on wood, I think the CPS issue is resolved.
